ISEC 2022
, the 2nd International Conference on Renewable Heating and Cooling in Integrated Urban and Industrial Energy Systems took place in Graz, Austria, from April 5-7.

A total of 350 experts* from science, industry and politics from 40 countries attended the conference, of which 250 were physically present at the Graz Congress Center and about 100 people participated online in this hybrid conference.

The conference was opened by Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler, Petra Schwager from UNIDO and Theresia Vogel from the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund.

The conference, organized by AEE INTEC in cooperation with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), sees itself as an impulse generator for innovative ideas in the fields of renewable energy systems and resource efficiency. Therefore, solutions and initiatives for the implementation of the agreement on global warming and the phase-out of fossil energy supply reached at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in December 2015 were presented and discussed in seven high-level key note speeches, 80 presentations and about 100 poster contributions.

Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the enormous dependence on fossil fuels that this has brought to light, it became clearer than ever at the conference that an accelerated transformation of our energy system towards more energy efficiency and renewables must take place.

With heating and cooling accounting for around half of Europe's total final energy demand, this poses enormous challenges for society. However, it also became clear from the presentations from research and industry that there are also many opportunities to contribute to this change, not only in Europe but also globally. The focus has to be on energy efficiency measures, the rapid decarbonization of industry, the conversion of district heating systems to renewable energy sources, and the use of storage technologies.
